OUTSTANDING PROFESSORS AND RESEARCHERS

If a School of Medicine Department has offered a permanent faculty or research appointment to an individual who has at least three years of experience in the academic field, and who qualifies as being recognized internationally as outstanding in the field, that person may qualify for permanent resident status as an Outstanding Professor or Researcher. Labor certification is not required for this category. To determine if the person qualifies, see below:

    I.      Evidence that the professor or researcher is recognized internationally as outstanding
                in the specific academic area may consist of at least two of the following:

Documentation of the alien’s receipt of major international prizes or awards fro outstanding achievement in the academic field;

Documentation of the alien’s membership in associations in the academic field which require outstanding achievements of their members;

Published material in professional publications written by others about the alien’s work in the academic field. Such material shall include the title, date and author of the material, and any necessary translation;

Evidence of the alien’s participation on a panel, or individually, as the judge of the work of others in the same or an allied academic field;

Evidence of the alien’s original scientific or scholarly research contributions to the academic field; or

Evidence of the alien’s authorship books or articles (in scholarly journals with international circulation) in the academic field.

  1. Evidence that the alien has at least three years of experience in teaching and/or research in the academic field. Experience in teaching or research while working on an advanced degree will only be acceptable if the alien has acquired the degree, and if the teaching duties were such that he or she had full responsibility for the class taught or if the research conducted toward the degree has been recognized within the academic field as outstanding.

If it appears the individual will qualify for this category, please submit materials as outlined on the permanent resident support form to Julie Zamoyski in the Dean’s Office. Please allow approximately 2 weeks for a response. Please note the documents submitted may be reviewed outside of the School of Medicine and the university by immigration attorneys.

After review of the documents submitted in support of the request for permanent residence sponsorship, you will be notified by the Dean’s Office.
