ADB (Academic Database)

1. Download the appropriate setup file, depending on the version of Access installed on the computer, by clicking on the file name. This is a self extracting zip file.

Description File to Download Contact
Access 97 ADBSetup.exe Alan Illescas 40775
Access 2000 ADB2kSetup.exe Alan Illescas 40775
Access 2003 ADB2003Setup.exe Alan Illescas 40775

2. Running the file will extract the setup files to C:\ADBSetup. Contact Mike Shane (x62889) for the unzip password

3. After the files are extracted, run C:\ADBSetup\setup.exe and accept all defaults

4. After setup is complete, you can delete the C:\ADBSetup directory. If two or more of the versions will be installed, ADBSetup should be deleted before continuing with the next installation.

5. The setup will create a folder called Academic Database under the Start Programs menu. Run the program once to test the program and so that the ODBC data source may be automatically created. Please have the user type their login id and password and wait to see the main menu to make sure that the program is working

TROUBLESHOOTING

If it takes quite long for the login screen to come up the first time you run the application, or if you get an "ODBC call failed" message after you type your id, check the ODBC data source (Control Panel - Administrative tools - Data Sources (ODBC)).

Click on ADB under the User DSN tab. Click on Configure. The server name should be somdeansdb.medsch.ucla.edu. After verifying the server name, click on Next. Click on Client Configuration. under Network Libraries, choose TCP/IP if it is not already selected, and click OK. Uncheck the box next to Connect to SQL Server and click on Next, Next, and Finish. Try the program again.
